Why do not women work in trade jobs - plumbing, mechanics, masonary?
Women are smarter and stronger than ever, but I never look down of cars or build houses. Why do I hear about it, they usually are on TV or in magazines. Why dont more women are working these jobs. They would probably do a better job!
As a girl who went to a trade school and was in Automotive Technology as the third choice, there is a lot of factors. For me, I got it from my father and was mostly a tomboy (although I still love to dress). I watched my father work his ass off fixing his car, and doing work around the house. It did not seem like such an alien concept for me. But I think a big reason is * because * they really are all male-dominated industries. If you do not have thick skin, and your peers are not very receptive to the idea of work with a woman, it would not be a pleasant working environment. Granted, my experience is limited to a high school setting, still apply it to an extent which teachers themselves were quite discriminatory with respect to the opposite sex working in their trade. Also need to take account of how female friends and family could perceive a woman who chooses such a trade. Cosmetology Why not? Culinary? Although it is more acceptable to some people. Each situation is different from themselves. There are plenty of emotionally and physically strong women who work these races and excel, I am sure. They just do not see themselves as something special to be celebrated. They are just doing their job. If I could afford the training, I would take manual labor during a social task of setting any day. But it's just me.
